Do your deer hibernate in the winter? We visited last fall, and our girls asked this question last month during a big snowstorm at our home in Washington. How do you care for the deer in the winter?
Thanks for writing, Brian. No, the deer do not hibernate, but their metabolisms do slow down. We feed them more grain to keep them warmer during the harsh Michigan winters, and they each get their own indoor stalls to stay warm. Fawns stay with their mothers and share their body heat. For the extreme cold weather, the barn can be buttoned up tight and heated, so the deer stay dry and warm.
It’s great to hear that you take such great care of these wonderful animals. Can you share any photos of the deer in their barn during a snowstorm?
i JUST CAME FROM FEEDING THE DEER AND IT WAS SNOWING BUT NOBODY WAS IN THE BARN.dEER HAVE A HEAVY WINTER COAT WITH HOLLOW HAIR TO KEEP THEM WARM.
